About the Program: Seton Teaching Fellows (STF) is an initiative of Seton Education Partners, participating in its mission to serve  children in underresourced and give them the opportunity to develop the knowledge, character, and faith necessary to earn a college degree, pursue lives of value and integrity, and become saints.

Job Description: The Residential Mentor (RM) plays a vital role in fostering a joyful, ordered, and faith-filled household culture within the Pius V Community House. Their primary responsibility is to uphold an environment rooted in joyful communication, a peaceful and orderly living space, and the moral and spiritual integrity of the household. This role is built on the understanding that a Fellow’s mission extends far beyond a professional commitment. The Seton Teaching Fellows (STF) Program is deeply invested in the holistic formation of each Fellow—not only as an educator but as a generous and engaged member of their household and broader community. The RM serves as a bridge between the STF Pius V Community and the STF National Team, helping to ensure accountability among Fellows while fostering a home life centered on prayer, personal responsibility, fellowship, and a shared pursuit of excellence. This is a “part-time,” contractor position.

As a live-in mentor, the RM will actively cultivate a positive, Christ-centered environment where Fellows are called to embrace self-gift and intentional community. By living alongside the Fellows, the RM will encourage them to embody Christ’s generosity—not just in the classroom, but within the home as well—creating a foundation of love and service that enriches their year of mission.

Responsibilities include: 

• Supports the fellows in living out the STF Rule of Life, and being faithful to the three pillars of the STF Program: faith, community, and education:
• Pillar of Faith 
  • Being a role model for leading a  lifestyle of Catholic integrity.
  • Direct Fellows to spiritual resources within the program or in the local neighborhood. 
  • Offers practical support for Fellows to successfully live out the Spiritual Commitments section of the STF Rule of Life as a Pius V Community. 
• Pillar of Community 
  • Galvanizing and coordinating house events that will nourish and uplift the Fellows, at least once a month. 
  • Attending and co-facilitating bi-weekly Pius V Community house meetings in order to foster a positive home culture and well-stewarded, orderly home. 
  • Housing Maintenance
    • Liaisons to the STF Formation Coordinator for Pius V Community housing/facility needs.
    • Collaborates with Fellows and STF FC to track progress of housing maintenance projects for successful completion. 
  • House Culture
    • Supports Fellows in conflict resolution within a community or within the larger Pius community. 
    • Supports Fellows create an orderly and consistent schedule for household responsibilities, meetings, and events. 
    • Regularly reports to the STF FC on the overall well-being of the house quality of life to the STF Formation Coordinator.
  • House Hospitality
    • Liaisons to STF FC for programmatic outreach events occurring at the house (ie: Come and Sees, Hosting of friends of the Program, etc.) 
• Pillar of Education 
  • Human Formation Supports
    • Conducting weekly office hours to offer practical support in the area of life skills. 
    • Intermittently mentoring Fellows in creating habits of daily personal and communal life such as:  
      • Time Management
      • Self-Management (e.g. flourishing human habits within a home) 
      • Budgeting for Food
      • Logistical Management of Events (e.g. delegation) 
      • Domestic Management  

Example Schedule (Around 5-7 hours/week) 

Monday	Tuesday	Wednesday	Thursday	Friday
Update the community board with a house schedule for the week. Other administrative tasks. (~30 minutes)	Weekly office hours.  (~1-2 hours)	Facilitate bi-weekly whole house meetings. (~ 1 hour)	Build culture by inviting a community to go to an outside event. (~2 hours)	Bi-weekly meeting with the STF Formation Coordinator about maintenance needs. (~ 30 minutes)

 

The ideal candidate will bring experience and skills in the following areas

• Has earned a bachelor’s degree (required).
• Has at least one year of teaching in a school serving predominantly low-income children with demonstrated exemplary student achievement results.
• A model of Christian life, joyfully adhering to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
• A model of professionalism. 
• Striving to maintain a consistent life of prayer and sacraments. 
• Openness to our charism of living an integrated life as an apostle of Christ the Teacher. 
• Loves the mission of Seton Teaching Fellows. 
• Communicates clearly and compellingly to influence action in others, both internally and externally, verbally and in writing.
• Learns, improves, adapts, and shifts seamlessly to evolving team needs and opportunities.
• Has experience of living in an intentional faith-based community. 
• Preferred, but not required: has leadership experience within an intentional faith-based community. 
• Preferred, but not required: has lived in Pius community housing for at least one year.

• 1 BX STF Residential Mentor, male or female. 

Compensation: Compensation for this position is the benefit of free housing in a single room at the STF Pius V Community House.
