Job Description for Principal – Knowledge Management - R & D

The Principal, Knowledge Management (KM) will serve as the primary technical expert in knowledge and data management within KDP R&D. This role will be responsible to execute the business agenda, manage complex data projects and oversee data and system management for the R&D organization with a strong team-first and customer focus. Maintaining strong connections with IT is crucial to this role. A team-first, customer-centric, and adaptable approach is essential in this role to manage multiple priorities and respond to customer requests promptly and respectfully. Additionally, exploring innovative technologies, such as AI, is important for continuous improvement. The Principal, KM should be proactive in this area.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Recognized technical expert, managing all aspects of the Optiva PLM system including planned and unplanned system enhancements.
  • Lead development and documentation of information infrastructure, taxonomy, metadata, data, and knowledge standards in line with KDP business needs.
  • Proactively manage and execute multiple complex cross-functional data projects, with guidance from Senior Manager, KM, to deliver against timeline while addressing business, IT, and budget constraints.
  • Actively pursue and evaluate cutting edge data science.
  • Strong understanding of how R&D works with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
  • Actively support resolution of escalated systems issues, providing communications on systems and IT issues when appropriate.
  • Align with Senior Manager, KM on project initiatives, planning and execution, business goals and departmental objectives.
  • Build and maintain a strong external network of peers in KM and other technical areas.
  • Create strong liaisons within and outside of R&D on local and global levels.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer or data science/IT/Knowledge management or similar field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in computer or data science/IT/Knowledge management or related field.
  • 3+ years of management or technical supervision desired but not required.
  • Exceptional willingness and propensity for collaboration, relationship & team building.
  • Proactively anticipate and business requirements and issues by having a strong pulse on the R&D organization
  • Strong project management skills with ability to proactively prioritize and coordinate complex projects.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills with strong ability to translate business needs into IT execution.
  • Exceptional knowledge of computer applications (SAP, Optiva, SQL server, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, MS Project, Visio, etc.)
