We were founded by families in East San José who wanted stronger academics and more support for their children. Alpha is a  free, TK-12 public charter school system  on a mission to prepare the next generation of leaders in East San José.

Alpha Public Schools is a public charter school network of four schools educating approximately 1,900 scholars in east San Jose. Guided by the belief that our students belong in college, we ensure safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environments to help our students thrive. What sets us apart is the very thing that makes us who we are– our community.Alpha was founded by a group of mothers on the eastside of San Jose who sought better educational opportunities for their students. A successful High School Principal

A successful Principal at Cindy Avitia High School is a dynamic, equity-driven leader who fosters academic excellence, a positive school culture, and strong community engagement. They set a bold vision for student success, ensuring that all students achieve at high levels and are well-prepared for college. Through strategic planning, instructional leadership, and data-driven decision-making, they empower educators to refine their teaching practices and drive student mastery. By cultivating a supportive and inclusive environment, they promote student social-emotional growth and reinforce a college-going culture. As a people leader, they recruit, develop, and retain high-performing faculty, coaching school leaders and teachers to uphold high expectations while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The principal engages families and the broader community, building meaningful partnerships to support student success. With a focus on operational efficiency and long-term sustainability, they monitor key performance indicators and implement systems that ensure strong academic outcomes, student engagement, and staff retention. 

What you’ll do…

Embody  the Mission, Vision, and Core Beliefs of the School and the Alpha Public Schools Network

• Develop and implement a strategic vision that drives sustained academic excellence and continuous school improvement.
• Foster a college-going culture that inspires students and families to actively engage in the college application and admissions process.
• Lead the creation of a positive, inclusive school culture rooted in Alpha’s core values—leadership, relationships, excellence, integrity, and joy.
• Build strong relationships with families, the community, and key stakeholders to enhance student success and school initiatives.
• Act as the public face of the school in the community - attending community events, board meetings, and student recruitment events as necessary.

Execute  All Day-to-Day Leadership Responsibilities

• Set ambitious school-wide goals aligned with network priorities and ensure strategic use of time, staff, and resources to meet key objectives.Oversee and align rigorous instructional practices, operational systems, and academic supports to drive student achievement.Monitor and analyze school performance data to drive accountability, continuous improvement, and strategic decision-making.
• Ensure that the school operates on budget by meeting student enrollment and attendance targets in service of academics.
• Lead high-quality professional development and coaching for Assistant Principals and instructional leaders to strengthen teaching and learning.
• Directly manage school leadership team and additional school site team members to meet school-wide expectations

Support  Teacher and Staff Development

• Train and develop teachers to analyze student data, identify learning gaps, and implement targeted instructional strategies.
• Cultivate collaboration within content and grade-level teams to refine and enhance instructional practices based on data-driven insights.
• Observe, coach, and support educators in delivering high-quality instruction that prepares students for college success.
• Ensure the ongoing development of a rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum that integrates academic and character-building goals.

Requirements

You possess…

• A Bachelor’s degree
• At least 3+ years of high school leadership experience and 8+ years in education
• Valid California teaching credential (or equivalent out of state license)
• Administrative services credential highly preferred
• Commitment to Educational Equity - belief that all students from the community we serve have the capacity to go to and through college
• Instructional & Data Expertise - ability to analyze and plan from student data and coach teachers and leaders to create excellent plans
• Leadership & Coaching Skills - able to coach and influence leaders, teachers and staff to improve student outcomes

• Competitive salary commensurate with experience. The starting salary for this role is $132,994.00 and goes up based on similar experience.
