The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Department of Medicine's Center for Precision Medicine and Genomics is actively seeking a highly motivated Genetic Counselor Assistant (GCA). The GCA will support and provide administrative assistance for multiple genetics clinics and research studies. The individual will work closely with genetic counselors, physicians, researchers, and research coordinators. This position is full-time and will require individuals to work in-person.

Responsibilities

  • Offer comprehensive administrative support to genetic counselors across multiple specialty clinics, encompassing tasks such as scheduling visits, acquiring medical records, assisting with prior authorizations, and completing test requisitions.
  • Manage front-office operations including answering phone calls and emails, providing appointment reminders, and documentation of patient referrals and demographics into clinic systems. 
  • Engage with patients to communicate information on genetic testing consent, sample requirements, and cascade testing.
  • Coordinate with healthcare providers to manage referrals and patient scheduling.
  • Facilitate the shipment and tracking of sample collection kits for genetic testing.
  • Obtain informed consent for participation in genetic research studies.
  • Compose and dispatch letters to research participants regarding genetic findings.
  • Utilize online tracking systems to monitor and manage research and clinical information.
  • Perform additional related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor?s degree in genetics, biology, or another health science field.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in-person.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in genetic counseling or clinical research is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred, though not mandatory.

Other Requirements

  • Medical clearance and participation in the medical surveillance program
    • Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
