The Astorian is looking for an editor to help lead an award-winning news team in one of the most beautiful and sought after areas to live in the Pacific Northwest.
Our digital-first newsroom publishes online daily and in print three times a week. The Astorian newsroom also publishes Coast Weekend, a weekly entertainment guide, the Seaside Signal, a weekly newspaper, and Our Coast, an annual lifestyle magazine.
The editor is part of a management team that emphasizes creativity and energy in serving a community shaped by water, natural resources and tourism. You'll direct a team of six, including the Coast Weekend editor, and guide designers in the print production process. We take pride in pursuing stories that punch above our weight, and developing talent by active coaching and one-on-one discussions.
Astoria is a located where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean, a region full of history and maritime traditions. Visitors enamored of the rich dining, arts, beer and culture of the region are driving a renaissance of entrepreneurism. Astoria is the health care and education hub for the region, home to an expanding community hospital and community college. Outdoor recreation is abundant--beach, mountains, water and wildlife.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience :
At least five years of experience as an editor, with a bachelor's degree in Journalism or a related field, or the equivalent combination of experience/education.
The right candidate will have sound news judgment, backed by strong journalistic knowledge and ethics, juggle multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines. Our team needs a creative thinker who uses the resources available to constantly improve news content by listening to readers and keeping a pulse on the community.
