Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operations Management:

    • Oversee all aspects of the agronomy location’s daily operations, ensuring efficient and smooth service delivery to customers.
    • Manage inventory, ordering, and stock levels of agronomy products like fertilizers, pesticides, seed, and crop protection products.
    • Ensure that equipment and facilities are properly maintained and operating at optimal capacity.
    • Monitor the quality and timeliness of services, including application services (spraying, fertilizing, etc.), soil testing, and custom agronomy consulting.
  2. Staff Management & Development:

    • Hire, train, and manage a team of agronomy specialists, applicators, sales personnel, and support staff.
    • Provide leadership and direction to the team, fostering a productive and safety-conscious work environment.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and develop employee skills through continuous training and development opportunities.
    • Ensure that staff are compliant with safety protocols and industry regulations.
  3. Customer Service & Relationship Management:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with local farmers, agribusinesses, and other clients in the region.
    • Provide technical expertise and agronomic advice to clients on crop protection, soil health, fertilization, pest management, and other agronomy services.
    • Address customer concerns, complaints, and product inquiries, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
    • Promote and cross-sell agronomy products and services to meet customer needs and grow the business.
  4. Sales & Business Development:

    • Develop and execute sales strategies for the location to increase product and service sales.
    • Assist in identifying new business opportunities, expanding customer accounts, and growing market share in the region.
    • Work with marketing teams to promote the location’s agronomy services and products, including organizing field days, demonstrations, or educational workshops.
    • Monitor sales performance, track budgets, and ensure financial targets are met.
  5. Safety, Compliance, & Environmental Stewardship:

    • Ensure that all agronomy operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations regarding pesticide application, environmental safety, and agricultural chemicals.
    • Promote and enforce safety standards for employees and customers, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and machinery.
    • Ensure that the location follows best practices for environmental sustainability and safe handling, storage, and disposal of agricultural chemicals.
  6. Inventory Management & Logistics:

    • Oversee inventory management, ensuring timely replenishment of products and proper storage of chemicals and fertilizers.
    • Work closely with suppliers and vendors to ensure product availability, negotiate pricing, and manage lead times.
    • Manage logistics for product deliveries, ensuring that customer orders are fulfilled on time and accurately.
  7. Data Management & Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of sales, inventory, customer interactions, and agronomy services provided.
    • Prepare and submit regular reports on operational performance, sales trends, and financial performance to senior management.
    • Utilize software systems to track inventory, sales, and agronomy applications.
  8. Market Awareness & Technical Expertise:

    • Stay up to date on the latest agronomic trends, technologies, and industry regulations.
    • Use agronomy knowledge to provide practical recommendations for improving farm productivity and sustainability.
    • Attend industry events, training sessions, and seminars to stay informed about new products, practices, and innovations in the field.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, Crop Science, or a related field is typically required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in agronomy, crop management, or agricultural sales , with at least 1-2 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Experience in managing an agronomy service center or retail agronomy location is highly preferred.
  • Certifications such as  Certified Crop Advisor (CCA)or pesticide applicator licenses may be required or beneficial.
  • A valid  driver’s license is required, and a  commercial driver’s license (CDL)may be needed if operating larger machinery or trucks.

Working Conditions:

  • The Agronomy Location Manager will spend a significant amount of time in both office and field settings, overseeing operations and interacting with customers.
  • Work may include long hours during peak agricultural seasons, such as planting and harvest times.
  • The role may require travel to meet with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
