This position will serve as lead in assisting active duty, national guard, reserve, and military spouses with obtaining the needed requirements for Federal Tuition Assistance and the My Career Advancement Account program. It will also provide back up advisement support for GI Bill beneficiaries. Advises new and continuing students on academic planning, program requirements, degree planning, transfer partnerships, and campus resources. Maintains current knowledge of MCCCD policies and procedures. Demonstrates a commitment to service excellence, innovation, student success, integrity, and diversity in the performance of job duties. May perform other duties as assigned.
50% Provides academic advisement and other related enrollment services to new and continuing students via 1:1 appointments (in-person, virtual online, and telephone), online chat, and email; Provides information and maintains current knowledge on transfer options, academic programs, class registration, pathway programs, general financial aid processes, graduation requirements, academic policies, career exploration and refers students to appropriate campus services. Thoroughly documents advisement interactions; Maintains effective time management practices in order to serve a large volume of students; Participates in group and individual advising.
30% Maintains access in the Air Force (AI) portal and Marine/Navy portals for all students utilizing Department of Defense federal tuition assistance or MyCAA. Will keep portal updated with current Title IV programs, upload course offerings, work with Student Business Services office on tuition authorizations and invoicing concerns, and maintain a database of students enrolled per term.
10% Actively participates in professional development in order to maintain current knowledge of relevant policies and implement best practices with advisement in order to assist in student support and retention; Collaborates with cross-college stakeholders.
10% Other duties as assigned
Associate’s Degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution; and experience assisting with academic advisement, career services, student success, or related student support functions in a higher education setting.
1. Bachelor's degree (completed or currently in-progress)
2. Experience providing direct services in a student support area (e.g. Advising, Career Center, Admissions, TRiO, Recruitment, Veterans’ Services)
3. Experience providing student service in a fast-paced and high-volume environment
4. Experience working with a diverse student population
Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate’s own expense.
May require some evenings or weekends.
May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen.
May be required to lift or carry up to 25 pounds.
