Department Information

The Colorado Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has four major operational divisions: Army National Guard, Air National Guard, Civil Air Patrol, and Veterans Affairs. These divisions utilize State and Federal resources to provide our communities, State, and Nation with a ready military force for National defense and State emergency response as well as providing assistance to our Colorado Veterans.

Description of Job

This position is part of the Civil Air Patrol unit with the Air National Guard division of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA). This position will serve as a dedicated liaison to expand access to youth programs such as JROTC, CAP, and Young Marines to open lines of communications between school districts and programs across the state to streamline efforts, leverage existing expertise and expand youth access, promoting learning and professional development working at Buckley Air Force Base and working a hybrid schedule of Tuesday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (10 hour days, 4 days a week). Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • representing DMVA at various outreach events, developing various marketing materials, identifying various external opportunities to target the community or potential participants for the programs;
  • planning and executing approximately 150 outreach events and meetings by July 1, 2027, targeting an average of 50 events per year that includes school visits, conferences, community gatherings, and collaborations with existing military programs to increase awareness and engagement with military auxiliary programs across Colorado;
  • facilitating the introduction and adoption of the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps. (JROTC) in Colorado schools and enhancing access to other military auxiliary programs ;
  • coordinating with leadership and existing JROTC Instructors to understand and leverage proven tactics for initiating new programs;
  • developing proposals for new programs outlining the benefits, educational outcomes, student development plans, and community recognition;
  • engaging in follow-up planning to address concerns and provide ongoing support;
  • strengthening existing connections with Navy, Marines, Army, and Air Force JROTC programs while facilitating the introduction and adoption of JROTC programs in Colorado schools to provide coverage and opportunity across the state for youth participation;
  • coordinating with DMVA leadership and JROTC Instructors to identify and initiate new programs for greater exposure;
  • forging new partnerships with educational institutions, homeschooling networks, professional associations, as well as other youth-dedicated programs to expand professional relationships; and
  • engaging in metrics for baselines and track progress against goals through creating a data management system that will trends, successes, and underutilized areas of the state for reports and analysis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience Only:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience working with youth or adults in an educational setting that included
    • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Word and Excel, email correspondence, and database management.
OR



Education and Experience :

A combination of related education in youth development or community development

and/or relevant experience in working with youth or adults in an educational setting.

  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively
