GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Wellness Coach, Recreation and Fitness, is responsible for assisting with day-to-day operations of the fitness center and gymnasium including providing excellent customer service and ensuring patron safety. This 2025 Spring semester (January 21-May 16, 2025) role supports various on-campus recreation and wellness education programs, creating a welcoming environment that builds community and promotes a healthy lifestyle among students and staff.  The Wellness Coach plays a crucial role in promoting wellness and creating a positive fitness experience for all facility users. This position requires a commitment to personal fitness, strong customer service skills, and the ability to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for the college community. Work hours will be between 8 am and 6 pm Monday through Thursday, in-person, during academic year only.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: 

  1. Monitor fitness areas continuously, ensuring patron safety and proper equipment usage
  2. Enforce wellness and recreation policies and rules consistently
  3. Assist patrons with proper equipment use and safety techniques
  4. Provide general fitness education and conduct new prospect facility tours
  5. Prepare facility for daily opening/closing and maintain cleanliness of equipment
  6. Report maintenance issues and complete equipment repair reports
  7. Respond to emergencies following established protocols and complete injury reports
  8. Assist with intramural activities and special events
  9. Perform clerical duties, including check-ins, data entry, and answering phones
  10. Attend all scheduled meetings and training sessions




Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. One year of experience in a health and fitness fields or in similar setting.
  3. Effective communication (oral and written) and organizational skills, attentiveness to detail, and demonstrated clerical skills.
  4. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to work amicably and tactfully with students, staff, and the public.
  5. Excellent time management skills and aptitude for proper task prioritization and a results-oriented work process.
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  7. Good typing skills and experience and familiarity with MS Office.
  8. Strong document management skills including ability to assemble items of information, work accurately with names, numbers, codes and symbols, and maintain accurate records/files in accordance with established procedures.
  9. CPR/AED certification (may be offered through the department).
  10. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform basic cleaning tasks, as needed.
  11. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings.

Additional Information:

COMPENSATION :   $20.00 per hour for up to 18 hours per week during the Academic Year. Part-time, non-benefited, non-unit position.
