About the opportunity

In this position, you’ll serve as the 2025 Summer Design Intern for one of the oldest and most respected tree care companies in the Bay Area, Professional Tree Care. As our “S.D.I.”, you’ll serve as a member of our marketing team, and become the sole person responsible for web and graphic design projects.

Throughout the summer, you’ll gain experience with a wide variety of projects related to promoting a local business including reviewing web content, updating and/or creating websites, gathering and cataloging logo files and domain name information, creating postcards, door hangers, mailers, and e-mail announcements. 

Reporting to the Strategic Assistant to the CEO (SA) and working alongside our Client Services Representative (CSR),  you’ll work collaboratively to centralize the procurement process for branded materials such as business cards, shirts, hats, and automobile magnets, wraps, etc. in order to increase efficiency, analyze costs, and track inventory.

Since 1980, The Professional Tree Care Company has been trusted for tree services throughout Northern California. Based in West Berkeley, we service commercial, residential, and public works projects from Mendocino to Monterey, and from San Francisco to Sacramento. We are known for excellent customer service, and the ability to remove enormous trees using large cranes and heavy equipment.

What makes us unique? We recycle 100% of material removed from job sites at our own Green Waste Recycle Yard (.com), mill logs into boards, and create organic mulch from the wood chips. We also have the staff, equipment, resources, and experience to perform tree services at any scale. 

Your Responsibilities Will  Include

• Serving as the main point of contact for all things related to marketing; primarily web and graphic design plus content creation
• Building new websites and updating existing sites
• Creating print materials such as postcards and door hangers
• Re-launching a division including the brand, website, and logo
• Updating marketing calendars including scheduling and preparing for monthly, quarterly, and annual events, seasonal surges, and other important events that impact sales 
• Researching local publications and place ads
• Reviewing copy for web, blog, industry articles, etc. as you are able

Requirements, Experience, Skills, and Abilities

• You’re a design nerd.  You either have a degree in graphic or web design, are pursuing one, or you’re a natural at building sites, designing logos, etc.  
• You have a portfolio of work, or a  list of good looking websites you’re able to show us online or in an interview
• You’re familiar, at least in concept, with branding, logo or website design, Google and Yelp ratings, understanding graphic design file types, social media and a slew of other ways to attract clients. 
• You’re familiar with Wix, SquareSpace, and other website building tools
• You know how to layout graphic projects for printing and understand basic terms like “bleed.” 
• *You live within an easy commute of West Berkeley. Our address is 2828 8th Street. Please hop on Google maps, set the travel time to 7:00 a.m. and determine how long your commute will be. 40 mins max, please. 
• You work at a fairly fast pace, have high attention to detail, and can manage a wide variety of tasks efficiently. Note: this role is best for someone with a great memory!

• The standard stuff: Smart with great time management and problem solving skills. Able to take keep personal phone calls and non-work related chit chat to a minimum, being extremely hardworking and emotionally intelligent
• Computer and software skills: Microsoft Suite, Word, Excel, etc. and a graphic design software of your preference

Compensation and Benefits

This is a part-time, temporary position designed as a summer internship that will last +/- 90 days.  The rate of pay is $20.00 per hour.
