Position Description:The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics Division of Neonatology is seeking a Research Intern in the laboratory of Dr. Allison Momany. The lab studies neurodevelopment in infants and children born preterm and uses a variety of genetic, epigenetic, neuroimaging, and statistical approaches to investigate the mechanisms that cause neurodevelopmental impairments in infants born preterm. This position will provide support for improving neurodevelopmental outcomes in infants born preterm by conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and performing operational duties associated with the laboratory.
Position Responsibilities:
~Perform research activities based upon protocols developed by other research staff or principal investigator of the research project.
~Perform research activities in genetics, including, DNA purification, preparation for microarray chips, and preparation for NGS.
~As individual skills develop, troubleshoot and analyze protocols; propose modifications to other researchers or principal investigator.
~Arrange and plan daily activities to prepare for experimental protocols.
~As individual skills develop perform complex techniques as outlined in research protocols and test and evaluate current procedures. Set up and operate equipment for experiments.
~Perform experimental procedures assuring fidelity to protocols; record and consolidate data as directed by Principal Investigator (PI).
~Collect, track, and perform data entry for reports.
~Manage project IRBs.
~Supervise undergraduate students completing general lab tasks.
~Identify study participants, lead recruitment and enrollment efforts, and develop and execute study retention efforts.
~Assist with procurement of supplies and materials.
~Collect data from Electronic Health Records with fidelity.
Education Requirement:• Bachelor's degree in science, engineering or a related field.
Required Qualifications:• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to learn relevant lab protocols under supervision of the principal investigator and other research staff is required.
• Ability to work well within a team.
• Demonstrated excellence with organizational skills.
Desirable Qualifications:• Basic laboratory techniques (e.g., pipetting).
• Experience with IRB protocols.
• Experience recruiting and enrolling subjects in research.
