We are focused on empowering adult learners through education, skills development, and community engagement. Our students, who come from diverse backgrounds and often face economic challenges, are enrolled in English or Adult Basic Education classes.
About the Role
We are seeking passionate and dedicated Part-Time Adult Basic Education (ABE) Reading Teachers to join our team. In this role, you will teach classes, develop lesson plans and instructional materials, assess student progress, and maintain records. You may also participate in team meetings and contribute to departmental discussions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
For ABE Reading Teachers:
Teach Reading classes (NRS Levels 1-2 / GLE 0-2.9 through NRS Level 6 / GLE 9-12) in-person, hybrid, or online, based on program needs.
Provide structured and clear instruction, practice, and assessment to help students achieve their goals.
Collaborate with fellow teachers and staff to create and improve educational materials and lessons.
Engage in professional development to enhance your teaching skills and our services.
For HiSET Test Prep Teachers:
Teach online HiSET Test Prep classes, covering test-taking strategies, strategic reading, study skills, and test formats.
Manage student participation in the HiSET Test Prep program.
Minimum Requirements
Experience in teaching reading and/or writing.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Knowledge of reading instruction methods and materials.
Sensitivity to the needs of adult learners.
Commitment to racial equity and a willingness to address systemic racism and other forms of oppression.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals and groups.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching adults in a community-based setting.
Familiarity with College and Career Readiness Standards.
Experience with HiSET test preparation.
Passion for collaboration, problem-solving, and continuous learning.
Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities.
Physical Requirements, Working Conditions, and Accommodations
Work primarily in a standard office or classroom environment with air conditioning and fluorescent lighting; some remote work options may be available.
Use of computers is required for accessing, inputting, and retrieving information.
Comfort working in an office setting with moderate noise levels and standard office equipment.
