Leidos has a need for a full-time Nuclear Explosive Safety (NES) Coordinator to lead multiple critical activities required per the NES Supplemental Directive, NNSA SD 452.2B, in Albuquerque, NM. The NES Coordinator will be required to interact extensively with multiple M&O Contractors and their associated NNSA Field Offices. Additionally, the successful candidate will interact regularly with the Contracting Officer Representative managing the Senior Technical Advisor Contract.

The NES Division plays an integral role within Defense Programs to ensure Nuclear Explosive Operations in DOE custody incorporate adequate controls to prevent High Explosive Violent Reaction and Inadvertent Nuclear Detonation (NES consequences). NESD Federal Chairs lead independent review teams to periodically assess all Nuclear Explosive Operations and related elements of Pantex infrastructure relied upon to protect these operations from hazards that could lead to NES consequences. These reviews rely upon extensive coordination with multiple organizations to be successful. The NES Coordinator will be responsible for key functions to facilitate these reviews, communicate review results to NNSA Management, and enhance efficiency of the NES Division as a whole.

The NES Coordinator, via delegated authority from the NES Division Director, will be responsible to support NES evaluation planning, execution, documentation, and post-evaluation activities (Management out briefs and coordination of NA-12 actions to close NES deficiencies). The successful candidate should have good organizational, verbal communication, and written communication skills.

The NES Coordinator will play an active role in the NES review process, particularly in the preparation for reviews and post-review processes. The successful candidate will be expected to acquire a familiarity with NES requirements through training and exposure to NES reviews. The NES coordinator will become familiar with the Pantex operational environment and will interact with Pantex NES Department personnel to help ensure the Division's situational awareness of emerging need for NES evaluations. The ideal candidate must be familiar with the NNSA's nuclear weapons program and have experience in working on a diverse team of SMEs in the broad area of nuclear explosive safety. The ideal candidate must have demonstrated keen attention to detail, extraordinary customer service, problem-solving skills to be able to thrive in a fast-paced, and high-consequence environment to ensure full support of the US Nuclear Weapons Program. Finally, the candidate should be flexible, with the agility to respond quickly and appropriately to changes in demands on the team.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Solicit NESSG Member and STA support for NES evaluations
  • Generate NES Evaluation "strawman" reports/memos
  • Coordinate and attend NES Evaluation out briefs (NA-12, PFO/OST, CDNS)
  • Publish NA-12 Tasking Letters to the Design Laboratories and other M&O Contractors as necessary
  • Document closure of NA-12-assigned actions
  • Track status of open NES actions to NA-12
  • Publish NA-12 Quarterly NES action status reports
  • Support Annual Audit of Pantex Closure Actions
  • Attend NES evaluations infrequently, and participate in training and process walkdowns
  • Maintain NES Division Activity Planner
  • Support NES Monthly calls for Program Managers and the NES Community
  • Assist in creation and maintenance of the NES Internal Operating Procedure
  • Assist in development of the NES Position Specific Qualification Standard
Required Education, Experience & Clearance:
  • Active Department of Energy (DOE) "Q" clearance with ability to get Sigma 15 access.
  • Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of experience in facilitation, strategic communication, and program integration or a Master's degree with 10+ years experience in facilitation, strategic communication, and program integration. STEM degree preferred but not required. High school diploma with additional years relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and apply communication and formal facilitation knowledge and capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated experience in writing and editing briefings and reports for senior and executive leadership, including the ability to maintain a professional demeanor when presented with issues, and ability to work multiple issues at once and prioritize workload.
  • Participation in inter-organizational or working group meetings.
  • Experience working in a high-performance team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing interfaces between NNSA/DOE, Nuclear National Laboratories, and Nuclear Production Agencies.
  • Related experience in a government, DOE, or military office.
  • Knowledge of NNSA SD 452.2, Nuclear Explosive Safety Evaluation Processes
  • Knowledge of the substantive nature of NNSA Nuclear Weapons programs and activities; missions, policies, and objectives.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $87,100.00 - $157,450.00
