Job Title: Non-QM Mortgage Underwriter
Location: Great Neck, NY
Department: Mortgage Underwriting
Reports to: Underwriting Manager

Job Overview:
We are looking for a skilled Non-QM Mortgage Underwriter to join our team. In this position, you will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and making decisions on complex non-qualified mortgage (non-QM) loan applications. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of non-QM guidelines and demonstrate the ability to assess risk while ensuring compliance with company policies and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and evaluate non-QM mortgage loan applications and supporting documentation.
• Analyze credit, income, and asset documentation for self-employed borrowers and non-traditional income sources.
• Apply knowledge of non-QM guidelines, investor overlays, and federal regulations.
• Accurately calculate income and debt-to-income (DTI) ratios.
• Identify and mitigate risks by assessing borrower creditworthiness and collateral value.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, investor guidelines, and state/federal regulations.
• Maintain clear documentation of the underwriting process.
• Collaborate with loan officers, processors, and other stakeholders to resolve outstanding issues.
• Provide excellent customer service and ensure timely review of applications.
• Make decisions regarding loan approvals, suspensions, or denials based on risk assessment.
• Stay informed about non-QM market trends and guidelines.

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of mortgage underwriting experience, specifically with non-QM products.
• Strong understanding of non-QM loan programs, including alternative income documentation.
• Experience with Automated Underwriting Systems (AUS) and manual underwriting.
• Knowledge of federal and state mortgage regulations.
• Ability to analyze complex borrower profiles and non-traditional income sources.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Strong communication and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency with mortgage loan origination systems (LOS), specifically Encompass, and related software.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay Range: $67,301.00 - $73,249.00 per year
