Music Teacher Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement music education curriculum for students on the autism spectrum
• Teach music theory, vocal skills, and instrument playing techniques
• Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet individual student needs and learning styles
• Plan and organize performances and recitals to showcase students' musical abilities
• Assess and track student progress, providing feedback and guidance for improvement
• Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation
• Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate music education into interdisciplinary projects and activities
• Communicate regularly with parents/caretakers to provide updates on student progress and address any concerns

Requirements

Music Teacher Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or related field
• Teaching certification or equivalent experience in music education
• Experience working with children on the autism spectrum or other special needs populations
• Proficiency in playing one or more musical instruments
• Strong knowledge of music theory and ability to teach vocal and instrumental techniques
• Patience, creativity, and a passion for working with students with special needs
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment
• Flexible and adaptable teaching style to accommodate individual student needs

Location: West Hempstead, New York

• Monday - Friday / 8:00am - 4:00pm

• Occasional before and after school work hours at the discretion of the Administrative staff
• School / Classroom setting
• Candidates should be comfortable teaching online and in-person

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to keep students safe from themselves and others and in some cases may need to implement CPI procedures.
• Must be able to remove oneself from potentially harmful situations and in some cases be able to lift a child.
