Job Description

Join a passionate team dedicated to public interest law! We are seeking a dynamic and self-starting individual to fill a Legal Secretary position within our Housing, Consumer & Public Benefits Unit in Dallas. As a nonprofit organization, we provide critical civil legal services to low-income individuals across North and West Texas.

Position Summary:
The Legal Secretary plays a crucial role in supporting our staff attorneys by providing administrative and secretarial assistance. This includes preparing legal documents, managing correspondence, and ensuring efficient office operations to deliver excellent client service.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist attorneys with legal document preparation and transcription.
Maintain accurate legal files and client records, including electronic case management.
Manage filing and e-filing of legal papers, ensuring compliance with court procedures.
Conduct client interviews and provide translation and interpretation services as needed.
Coordinate office tasks such as answering phones, mail distribution, and calendaring.
Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all client interactions and office activities.
Support other administrative tasks and projects as assigned by management.
Qualifications:

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Fluent in Spanish (verbal and written).
Previous experience in a legal office environment preferred.
Familiarity with bankruptcy or tax law is advantageous.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Proficiency in MS Word and other Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to maintain discretion and professionalism at all times.
