About the Job The Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering is
looking for a technician to work with our students, faculty, and staff. We foster a warm and welcoming environment. The person in this
position will participate in ordering, preparing and laying out supplies, equipment and apparatus. Provide technical assistance to
professional staff personnel in executing complex laboratory
experiments and conduct laboratory exercises in teaching and
research.
Responsibilities 75% Technical lab support
Provide technical assistance for Bioproducts and
Biosystems Engineering undergraduate engineering lab courses. Classes include topics such as fluid mechanics, instrumentation and process
control, biomass conversion processes, properties of materials, process engineeringSetup the lab exercises for each of the lab
coursesEnsure that all lab equipment is functioning properly and ready for use prior to the start of each semesterWork
with vendors and University's facilities management (FM) in repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining the safe operation of the lab
equipment; order parts, supplies, and new equipment as necessaryAssist the students with analysis of dataAssist with
grading student work and laboratory reports as neededEnsure safe operation of the lab equipment and conduct of lab exercises,
coordinate with the University's Department of Environmental Health and Safety (DEHS) if necessaryAssist the course instructors
with the design, development, and implementation of lab exercises
10% Assist faculty with research related equipment needs and
support
15% Departmental Support
Oversight of department-owned vehicles (provide training guide and register new users,
maintain checkout logs, schedule service checkups, and repairs)Assist with departmental events Assist with maintaining
department space and equipment
Qualifications Required High school graduation
or the equivalent with some science courses and two years of experience in relevant academic and work experience may be
substitutedDemonstrated experience in repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining the safe operation of the lab
equipmentMust possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out-of-state driver's
licenseDemonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, students, and staffDemonstrated experience in
coordinating multiple projects or work tasksProven ability to pay attention to detail
Preferred
B.S. degree in Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering or related science and engineering field or two-year associate degree
in related science, engineering or technical fieldExperience with courses in the bioproducts and biosystems
engineering
About the Department The Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering (BBE) discovers
and teaches solutions for the sustainable use of renewable resources and enhancement of the environment. BBE integrates engineering,
science, technology, and management into all degree programs taught by internationally recognized faculty. Our engineering program is
accredited under the Biological Engineering criteria of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and
Technology .
