Job Summary:
Service is the foundation of everything we stand for at Vail Resorts and our Ski Patrol team is no exception to ensuring this experience of a lifetime. Responsible for promoting the safety and security of staff and guests on the mountain, Ski Patrol are alert and dependable professionals focused on promoting safety with the ability to remain calm in a crisis when incidents arise.
Job Specifications:
Expected Pay Range: $22.00 - $23.00 / hour
Shift & Schedule Availability: Full Time
Skill Level: Intermediate - Expert
Other Specifics: Patrol members operate at some of the highest elevations on the mountain on all terrains and in all weather conditions. Due to the nature of this position candidates must be able to pass an expert level ski patrol test upon hire; snowboard only candidates may be ineligible for certain positions due to safety concerns.
Job Responsibilities:
Maintain up to date knowledge of and enforce all applicable laws, policies, and procedures to ensure the safety of all guests
Maintain the safety and operation of trails through preventative procedures such as avalanche mitigation, tree and limb removal, and end of day closure of the mountain
Establish, coordinate, and execute emergency and hazard response plans such as evacuations and search and rescue protocols
Assist and provide care to injured guests and workers including transport via toboggan or air lift support when necessary.
Transport and set up of various mountain safety equipment, via skis and/or snowmobile operation, such as avalanche mitigation explosives, chainsaws, and first aid equipment
Assist with training and ongoing education
Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification required
Valid driver’s license required
3-5 years of previous patrol experience preferred
Must be able to communicate fluently in English
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, holidays, and weekends
Ability to use all senses
Ability to lift and transport 50 to 100 pounds with or without assistance
Ability to frequently walk/stand, sit/climb, balance, stoop/kneel, crouch/crawl, and reach throughout the course of work in all climate conditions and at high elevations
The expected pay range is $22.00 - $23.00. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
