Employment Category Limited Duration Job Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (approximately 30 hours per week) Education Program Assistant 1 position for the Division of Extension and Engagement's Family and Community Health Program at Oregon State University ( OSU ). This is a limited duration appointment expected to last approximately one (1) year from the appointment begin date. This position will be located in Portland, Oregon. Due to funding, OSU will not sponsor immigration work authorization for this position (e.g. H-1B, etc.). This limited duration (approximately 1 year) Education Program Assistant 1 (EPA1) position works with the SNAP -ED and EFNEP Latin Heritage Cultural Workgroup project serving Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties and is based at the OSU Extension Service office in Portland, Oregon. This position is with the Division of Extension and Engagement's (division) Extension Family and Community Health ( FCH ) program. This position has a priority designation for working with Spanish speaking audiences through the utilization of bilingual/bi-literate/bi-cultural skills. The EPA1 will: + Offer programs and classes to Spanish and English-speaking audiences that promote healthy eating habits and physically active lifestyles to individuals and families. + Work with community partners like schools, food banks and pantries, and other non-profit organizations. This will require driving/travel to various county sites to deliver programming. + Be part of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education ( SNAP -Ed) and Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program ( EFNEP ) Program teams, supervised by the FCH Unit Manager. This EPA1 assists the Managing Faculty Member with designing, developing, maintaining and/or carrying out educational programming and outreach activities to serve broad and diverse populations in an accessible, inclusive, equitable, and socially just manner. This includes complying with Civil Rights and Language/Visual Access regulations. The division has built the capacity and expectation for employees to use digital communications and technologies in the modern-day workplace. This EPA1 works with the Managing Faculty Member to create opportunities to enhance access, inclusion, and relevant best practices, using digital communications and technologies where appropriate. About Nutrition Education Programs ( SNAP -Ed and EFNEP ) The Education Program Assistant 1 position is part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education ( SNAP -Ed) Program, a federally funded nutrition education program targeting SNAP eligible audiences, and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program ( EFNEP ), a federal nutrition education program targeting families with young children. Interventions include hands-on learner-centered direct education in both programs, as well as community-based work related to policy, systems, and environmental change as part of SNAP -Ed. Programs are designed to promote healthy eating habits and a physically active lifestyle. Funding is provided in part by USDA's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ( SNAP ) through a contract with Oregon Department of Human Services, and through EFNEP federal funds. Key Responsibilities This Education Program Assistant will deliver non-credit programming to Spanish and English-speaking audiences. 60% Program Delivery and Implementation -Delivers lessons and programs (in Spanish and English) promoting healthy food choices and encouraging physical activity in a variety of community settings, including schools. 20% Nutrition Education - Planning, Preparing, and Evaluating -Works with Nutrition Education team on plans, preparations and evaluation of educational programs and events. 10% Nutrition Education Program Records -Submits and maintains all applicable program reports and documentation. 10% Meetings & Trainingsand Other Duties What We Require High School Diploma or equivalent and at least two years of relevant experience (paid or volunteer), supporting community programs that serve children, youth, or adults OR Associate Degree and one year of work experience (paid or volunteer) which must be working in youth development programs, adult education, teaching, program delivery or related functions AND Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated skill to work with diverse audiences. Demonstrated skill to use computers for word processing, data management, and communications. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months. This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030. What We Would Like You to Have + Two years' experience with delivering a curriculum in a youth group setting. + Experience with SNAP -Ed or program partners (such as DHS , WIC , schools or other agencies). + Ability to learn and adapt to using multiple forms of digital communication systems, including websites, email newsletters, social media, and other tools in a changing technological environment. Working Conditions / Work Schedule Access to a vehicle is necessary as duties will require travel/driving to various sites in Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties to deliver non-credit programs and transporting curriculum materials.
