The Barbershop Bar, Windsor Ontario in Windsor, ON is looking for one barber stylist / barber apprentice to join our 20 person strong team. We are located on 2587 Howard Ave. Our ideal candidate is attentive, motivated, and hard-working.

At The Barbershop Bar our Barbers are not only knowledgeable and skilled in the tradition and trends of barbering, they are also SMART Serve certified and double as Bartenders. As a professional Barber, your primary focus is delivering an exceptional grooming experience that include basic and advanced barbering techniques such as the traditional hot towel straight razor steam shave. Your main objective is to build positive relationships and create an exceptional grooming experience that ensures guests return and recommend/refer our services to others. We are looking for someone who is able to become a subject matter expert of menu items, possesses effective communication skills and displays a genuine interest in providing an exceptional grooming experience for each guest. Must be well-groomed and professional. 

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive consultations regarding desired services and styles to verify expectations are achievable prior to initiating services. 
• Analyze hair and scalp condition and provide basic treatment or advice on beauty care treatments for scalp and hair
• Suggest hairstyles compatible with clients physical features or determine style from clients preferences
• Promote products, services, or programs that may alleviate challenges or hair conditions.
• Cut and trim hair according to guest instructions or preferences. Plan desired effect by studying facial features; examining potential styles; conferring with guests; making recommendations.
• Shape and trim beards and moustaches using scissors and or trimmers.
• Perform traditional straight razor wet (lather)/steam shave and shape/trim beards, mustaches, neck and temple hair contours, using razors, to guest expectations.
• Shampoo and rinse hair and provide other hair treatment, such as scalp conditioning massages.
• Apply cleansing/conditioning agents to hair for therapeutic or cosmetic purposes hair, scalp, or skin.
• Provide waxing services.
• Book, cancel and reschedule appointments using the on the booking system.
• Maintain client information or service records within the system database.
• Process financial payments for services using the point of sale system.
• Perform receptionist duties and order materials, supplies, or equipment as directed.
• Provide training and supervision to other barbers, hair stylists, apprentices and helpers as required.
• Check identification to ensure guests meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages.
• Provide and guide guests through the menu, answer questions, make recommendations/suggestions as appropriate.
• Ensure guests benefit from current, on-going and upcoming promotions.
• Answering phones, greeting, seating, and thanking guests.
• Cleaning central waiting area which includes tables, booths, floors, restrooms and high touch areas.
• Maintain stations and areas of the shop to exceed all Health Department standards. 
• Clean ALL workstations, sweep and mop floors, launder linen, and clean other areas in the building including washrooms and stockrooms. 
• Clean and sterilize scissors, combs, clippers, and other instruments according to standards established by Public Health.
• Perform other cleaning duties, such as vacuuming, emptying garbage bins, checking & cleaning bathroom.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications

• Qualified individuals must have a Certificate of Qualification, and be experienced as a hairstylist with a license to work in Ontario.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing publications.
• Customer service skills – able to meet and exceed guest expectations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule including opening, closing, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to perform efficiently during high volume peak periods.
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
• Must possess Food Handler Safety and Smart Serve Certification prior to first day of employment OR be willing to become certified within 30 days. 
• Keep up to date with current hairstyle trends.
