Position Title: Assistant Court Clerk

The Ottawa Municipal Court is seeking highly motivated applicants for the part-time position of Assistant Court Clerk who are committed to a long career with our department. The Municipal Court is located in the Ottawa Law Enforcement Center with the Ottawa Police Department and both offices frequently work together to accomplish the work and goals for police and court operations. With an authorized strength of one (1)Court Clerk, one (1) Assistant Court Clerk, one (1) City Prosecutor and one (1) City Judge, the court hears all cases filed for criminal violations of municipal code (Traffic, Code Enforcement, Criminal). The Assistant Court Clerk is assigned to the Investigations and Support Services Division (ISSD) and is the first person the community interacts with when entering the Law Enforcement Center for court matters. Having a customer service approach and desire to help those in need is a primary function of the position. The Assistant Court Clerk is an integral part of the criminal justice process that helps ensure victims are served and offenders are held accountable by timely processing requests, reports, hearing and trials; and ensuring that all required documents adhere to local, state and federal requirements. The right person for the position will possess a strong ability to maintain confidentiality, work as a team, understand that different people have different roles in the organization and work well with officers, court staff, other city departments and the public. The Assistant Court Clerk must maintain all KBI and KSCJIS requirements for entering criminal justice information, including arrest warrants, stolen items, arrest and offense data, or other data required for court reporting.
All police department employees are encouraged to remain physically and mentally fit. Employees can work out during the duty day in the department fitness center. Other opportunities include being part of the department’s Peer Support Team, internal department committees, patrol ride along, and more. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Employees must be a Kansas resident upon hire, 18 years of age at time of appointment and a U.S. citizen, possess a valid Kansas driver’s license upon appointment, and be insurable by the city’s insurance carrier; high school diploma or GED is required, college credit preferred. Applicants must establish and maintain residency within Franklin County or within a driving distance of 35 miles of the Ottawa City Hall, AND within the state of Kansas within one year of hire. Applicants must successfully complete the following hiring steps: oral panel interview and a thorough background investigation. Candidates recommended for hire will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, psychological examination, and physical exams. AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS:

Hours: Day Shift: Hours vary depending on schedule from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Must be able to work on scheduled court days (currently Wednesdays).
