We are excited to invite applications for the role of Academic Advisor I. This position offers a dynamic opportunity to support and guide first-year and continuing students pursuing four-year degrees in the School of Mines and Engineering. As an Academic Advisor, you will play a crucial role in fostering student success by working closely with faculty, staff, and students to create a supportive educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide personalized advising to current, new, and prospective students in the School of Mines and Engineering (SME).
Maintain regular communication with students to support their enrollment and retention.
Use student information systems such as Banner, OrediggerWeb, and EAB Navigate to facilitate and track meetings with students.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance student success.
Refer students to appropriate campus resources as needed.
Interpret and explain academic rules and regulations, including course catalog details and math/writing placement.
Assist with new student orientation sessions and information sessions in Freshman Engineering Seminar.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Strong understanding of higher education systems.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Ability to remain calm and professional in various situations.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in computer software programs or the ability to learn new ones quickly.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a STEM field.
Two years of relevant experience, including an advising background.
Knowledge of university-level advising policies and procedures.
Demonstrated empathy and commitment to student success.
Familiarity with student information software such as Banner, OrediggerWeb, DegreeWorks, and EAB Navigate.
